Screen Wake Lock, in your browser

Keep your screen from locking — without touching your OS settings.

One tab, one click. No install, no account, no admin rights needed — works even on a locked-down work laptop. Built for long AI-agent runs, downloads, presentations, and anywhere your screen keeps dimming at the wrong moment.

Walking away from your desk? Switch to blank/stealth mode below — a plain black screen, or upload your own photo as the background — so it looks like nothing's open instead of announcing your laptop's sitting there unlocked.

How it works

This uses the browser's own Screen Wake Lock API — no hidden video loop, no simulated clicks, no extra CPU or battery cost. It just tells your OS "don't dim or lock the display," the same signal video-call apps use. The lock holds only while this tab stays open and visible — switching away or closing the laptop lid releases it (that's a browser/OS limit, not something any web tool can work around).

The blank/stealth screen is just as simple: a plain black overlay with a tiny Start/Stop control tucked in one corner, or — if you upload a photo — your own background image instead of black. That photo never leaves your browser; it's stored locally (IndexedDB), never uploaded anywhere, and stays saved for next time until you clear it.

For AI coding agents

Running Claude Code, Cursor, or a local model for a while? Screen lock and system sleep are different things, and only one of them actually pauses a running agent —here's the distinction and how to handle both.

FAQ

Why not just use my OS's own sleep settings or a native app?
You still can — tools like `caffeinate` (Mac), PowerToys Awake (Windows), or Amphetamine work well. This exists for the times you can't install anything (a locked-down work laptop, no admin rights) or just don't want to — one tab, zero setup.
Is this safe to use on a work computer?
It's built for personal use cases — presentations, downloads, long AI-agent runs. If your employer manages auto-lock timing as a security policy, that policy exists for a reason; use your own judgment on a managed device.
Will this keep my screen on if I close my laptop lid?
No — a physically closed lid triggers OS-level sleep that no browser tab can prevent.
